I spotted this common loon while driving within a local park. Fortunately, there was a parking area next to the water. I quickly parked and used my car as a blind, photographing this bird for over an hour from the front seat. I kept getting undesirable reflections of trees in my frame, but I was patient and eventually the loon swam into the only calm spot without reflections of the trees.
Hicks' Photographic Studios has grown over the years out of my longtime love of photography. I have been a photographer and have been selling my photographic art for over 20 years. Originally, I started out working in a photojournalistic style and attended college to become a photojournalist. Although I enjoyed the photojournalist style and photographing people and events, I quickly discovered the art and challenge of working with wildlife and the unscripted natural world surrounding us. I still enjoy the occasional project photographing events, portraits, or weddings. Nowadays though, Hicks' Photographic Studios is primarily a fine art nature, landscape, and wildlife photography studio. I hope you enjoy my work. -Matt Hicks
